Councillor's Allowances 

Councillors are not paid a salary or wages, but they are entitled to allowances and expenses to cover some of the costs of carrying out their public duties.

These allowances are set by the National Independent Remuneration Panel.

1. Basic allowance

Basic Allowance for all Councillors for 2009/10 is £13,356 p.a.

(Some Councillors decided not to take the increase recommended by the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales for 2009/10 (from £13,030p.a to £13,356p.a.) and continue to receive basic allowance at the 2008/09 rate of £13,030 p.a. some members that accepted the increase made a personal decision to contribute a proportion, or all of their increase in allowance to local organisations, schools etc. )

5. Chair and Vice Chair of Council's Allowances 2009/10.

 In addition to their basic allowance the Chair and Vice Chair of Council receive allowances in accordance with Sections 22 and 24 of the Local Government Act, 1972 in order to meet the expenses of their offices -:

Chair of County Council's Allowance 2009/10 - £10,637 p.a.
Vice Chair of Council's Allowance 2009/10 - £7,091 p.a.
